European integration of Belarus: current situation, problems and prospects

In 2023 the Institute of Development and Social Market in Belarus and Eastern Europe launched a project on a critical understanding of the history and prospects for the development of relations between Belarus and the European Union. The Institute invites renown Belarusian experts, representatives of democratic forces and civil society, as well as European politicians, analysts and researchers to take part in these debates.
The round table "Belarus-EU: from neutrality to European integration" was organized November 17, 2023. Belarusian and European analysts, diplomats and politicians participated in the event. The discussion consisted of two parts: expert and political.

The experts analyzed:
  • debates about the European perspective for a democratic Belarus;
  • proposals for the development of relations between Belarus and the EU.

The representatives of Belarusian democratic forces:
  • expressed the views regarding the potential EU membership of Belarus;
  • formulated the proposals for the development of cooperation between Belarus and the EU.

ZOOM seminar:

Based on the results of the round table "Belarus-EU: from neutrality to European integration", project experts Roza Turarbekava and Victoria Leukavets developed a policy paper "Analyzing the European perspective for a democratic Belarus". The document analyzed the approaches of the expert community and politicians from Belarus and the EU, and also developed 10 policy recommendations. The paper is intended for politicians and experts from the EU countries, responsible for policy development in relation to Belarus.

The seminar "Analysis of the European perspective for democratic Belarus: views of experts, politicians and Belarusian democratic forces" was organized February 28, 2024. At the seminar, experts and politicians discussed the policy paper developed by project analysts Roza Turarbekova and Victoria Levkavets.

ZOOM seminar:

The seminar "New dividing lines in Europe: Belarusians on both sides of the fault line", held on March 29, 2024, consisted of two panels.
Panel I. Belarusians "within" the country: freedom of movement: educational, professional and humanitarian aspects.
Panel II. The position of Belarusians in EU countries: support, sanctions, securitization and politicization of the issue.
